Western Bulldogs was one of the oldest football club founded in 1883 based at Whitten Oval an inner Suburb of Melbourne. One of the achievements some people said of the Western Bulldogs that they have drawn the supporters from working class so that they take an interest in football. The Bulldogs played their matches at Docklands Stadium which is also their home ground as well.

History:

Before officially changing the name of Footscray it is also known as “Prince Imperials” from 1880 to 1882 while playing in the junior division of the then Victorian Football Association (VFA) and after joining the senior division they changed their name to the Footscray Football club in 1886. The former name of Western Bulldogs is a Footscray Football Club. Bulldogs achieved a hat trick of premierships during the 1898 to 1900 and then their fourth win of premiership was between 1919 and 1924.

After joining the Victorian Football League (VFL) in they have lost a number of good players and also the team was not performing well till 1946 when they won first 9 games of the season. From 1938 to 1951, Footscray has lost 6 semi-finals but in these 6 defeats they have created record like 959 points in the home and away games which is record by Jim Gallagher, Herb Henderson and Wally Donald. This Club has also the player like Ted Whitten Sr. known as one of the best player ever played in football, also known Mr Football or E.J. won the Premiership in 1954 under the Victorian Football League.

In 1970 EJ retired and held the record of most played games 321. But after him BullDogs have not won any title or any big game.

 

Leading goal player in the 2011 season is Barry Halls with 55 goals while the club has 11th position.

Sid, the real life mascot of Western BullDogs is Australian bulldog age about 2 and half year.
